PSFU trains its members in “fundamentals of business membership organisations management” to enhance their capacity for sustainable association growth

Kampala, Uganda; 21st June 2022: PSFU in partnership with the Dutch Employers Cooperation Programme (DECP) with support from the Embassy of Netherlands are conducting a 2-day training for their members about the functioning of employers’ and business member organizations. 

The objectives of the training included:

  1. Enhancing and improving skills for PSFU Member Associations in developing and articulating “value propositions” for their associations.
  2. Enhancing and improving capacity of PSFU Member Association to use their value propositions to ably develop sustainable programs and activities relevant and satisfactory to their member needs.
  3. Engaging all trained member associations to develop and “Action Plan” for application of acquired skills to improve their association performance.

Speaking at the training, the PSFU Vice Chair, Hon. Victoria Sekitoleko, said that PSFU recognizes the need to build capacity of its member associations to serve their members satisfactorily while ensuring their sustainability to effectively contribute to Uganda’s economic development.

“PSFU mandate includes capacity building for our members. We are committed to support and facilitate our members’ growth and development through delivering trainings that will contribute to sustainability of these member associations.” said Sekitoleko. 

Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer, KACITA Uganda, Mr. Abel Mwesigye acknowledged that the training was timely and critical for them because building a sustainable association requires skills, and knowledge to be able to contribute to the growth of member businesses and we request PSFU to continue lobbying and engaging us all for the betterment and growth of our associations. He also noted that over 200,000 members of KACITA Uganda will benefit from the association growth elements expressed in this training. 

“The Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Uganda recognizes the important role PSFU plays in the economy particularly with regards to contributing to discussions on improving the business environment for investment and trade. Therefore, the Embassy is committed to continue this partnership towards capacity building of PSFU members.” Said The Head of Programs & Deputy Ambassador, Joost Van Ettro. 

The training brought together member Association secretariat managers with specific targets to Chief Executive Officers and Executive Directors. The training targeted 35 representatives selected from  PSFU Member Associations who included;  Uganda Association of Consulting Engineers, Hortflesh, Association of Tour Operators, Association of Real Estate Agents, Uganda National Building & Civil Engineering Contractors, FITSPA, Uganda Clearing and Forwarding Association, Uganda National Farmers Federation, KACITA Uganda, Uganda Fish Processors & Exporters Association, UFEA, Horticultural Exporters Association, National Cultural Forum, Uganda Manufacturers Association, Uganda Small Scale Industries Association, Uganda Forex Bureau Association, Uganda Oil Seeds Processors Association, Crop Life, NAWOU, Uganda Media Association, Uganda Women Entrepreneurs Association Limited (UWEAL).
